Public spaces, childhood and democracy in a Post-it note

Ideas of parents, teachers and citizens gathered trough post-it notes during the BRIC Forum the 8th November 2016 in Bassa Reggiana, Italy

I totally agree with this experience…if children lives the environment, they experience the diversity and become aware of the environment.

This project put in evidence how much a public space can be full of stimuli for both children and adults.

The project offers the children the possibility of living public spacesas a right, but also at the same time experimenting and experiencing the outside space with curiosity through their thoughts and their traces.

Public space: fascinating, seductive, that belongs to everyone.

I think of a welcoming child community. I think of a community with children like an opportunity to grasp.

The discoveries made with children, to look at children with different eyes that surprise ourselves, we departed but have not arrived yet, we are facing a long way to go together.

Democracy, involvement, opening.

Children walk with eyes and we discover another new world trough their eyes.

By looking at pictures and videos we can observe how a place can be attractive and stimulating for children although there are no structured games.

It is possible to extend the project giving life to “stories of spaces” , to create stories told by children that take place in popular places of the town.

An occasion, trough expert teachers eyes, to see how much our children know how to live consciously every moment.

A project that supports a more and more conscious parenthood.

Suggestions for the future: go on!

Shared pleasure adults and children, risk perception that changes with the knowledge of places and the trust in children.

The importance of interacting with other countries and taking the project forward together.

Public spaces are versatile places for children where they can explore and play through their body, their eyesight, by touching and smelling.

Bric is a deep act of responsability towards the whole city population. An assumption of meaning in the elaboration of a new function conception of places. Places that rise to a cultural, social and shared heritage, that do not build barriers but give opportunities. Bric is trust, trust in children’s capacity of generating awareness and also in adult’s capacity of listening and making use of reflections and experiences.

Regarding the community involvement: it is always a good thing to smile!

How can we build a society by watching and listening how children see things? How can we create meeting places?
